Psychiatry
Psychiatry provides compassionate, evidence-based care for adults facing mood, anxiety, psychotic, and neurodevelopmental conditions. We combine careful diagnostic evaluation with individualized treatment plans that may include medication management, collaborative care with therapists, and coordination with primary care and other specialists.
Psychiatry in Chicago
When we typically think of psychiatry, we often picture a quiet office where patients simply receive medication. It often goes unnoticed that psychiatry is a dynamic, collaborative field that addresses the full spectrum of mental health needs.
Psychiatry combines medical expertise with a deep understanding of human behavior, allowing providers to diagnose, treat, and support individuals facing a wide range of conditions. At any given time, psychiatrists across the country are helping millions of people manage challenges like depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and ADHD — often in partnership with therapists, primary care providers, and families.
Our office is located in the loop very close to many of downtown college campuses and work places. Chicago has a reliable public transportation system, with buses and “L” trains, that can be a cheaper option than calling for a ride.
The blue line “L” gets out at our front door and the red, brown, green, and pink lines all have stops within 1-2 blocks of our building.
Do you have experience with psychiatry?
When someone reaches out to us for psychiatric care, it’s not unusual for them to have had a negative or impersonal experience with mental health treatment in the past. For many, this may have begun in childhood or adolescence — perhaps after difficulties in school, a parent’s divorce, bullying, or other life challenges. Sometimes, those first experiences with psychiatric medication or evaluations weren’t entirely by choice. Unfortunately, such experiences can discourage people from seeking the help they truly need later in life.
The transitions and demands of life at any stage can be difficult, and when decisions are made for us — even with good intentions — they may not always meet our needs in that moment. As an adult, you have the opportunity and the right to choose a psychiatrist who is the right fit for you. Modern psychiatry is collaborative: you and your provider will discuss your history, concerns, and goals together, and develop a treatment plan tailored to your needs.
It is also encouraging to hear when people share stories of past psychiatrists or other mental health professionals who were helpful and supportive. Those positive experiences can help guide you in choosing a provider who feels right for you now.
If you have never met with a psychiatrist and are unsure where to start, our intake coordinator can guide you through the process. Our psychiatric providers also offer consultations to answer your questions, explain your options, and give you a sense of what working together would feel like — so you can take the next step with confidence.
In Person or Virtual Appointments
Psychiatry appointments generally last an hour for evaluation and 30 minutes for medication management. You and your psychiatrist can discuss what is the best schedule for you and your situation. Appointments are available Monday - Friday in the morning, during the daytime, and in the evening.
If you have never been to a psychiatrist and do not know how to make an informed decision, our intake coordinator can help guide you through this process. Also, our psychiatrist offer a 30 minute consultation, at no charge, over phone or video, to clarify any questions that arise, and also so you can get a feel for what the interaction is like between the two of you.
Health Insurance
Our office accepts all commercial insurance plans. This includes plans that are issued for in-state residents as well as out of state plans.
Will my psychiatrist understand me?
Check out our psychiatrist bios to see who may be a good fit for you. While looking at a provider’s picture and reading through a brief synopsis of their experience, you may find yourself wondering something like, “Will this person understand me?”
The most effective way to address that concern is to ask. Our psychiatrists offer consultations at no cost, giving you the chance to talk directly, ask questions, and get a feel for whether their style and approach align with your needs. Psychiatrists typically choose this profession because they are deeply committed to helping people who are struggling. Acceptance of who you are — along with understanding your symptoms, concerns, and goals — is where good psychiatric care begins.
We value everyone who comes through our doors as a unique individual. We are committed to providing an inclusive and welcoming environment for all clients and staff, and we extend these values to our professional relationships as well.
